Bitcoin and Ethereum start Q3 2025 during a seasonally weak period for crypto markets. Data from CoinGlass confirms that Q3 is typically the softest quarter for both Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH).
Bitcoin’s average Q3 return was just +5.55%, with a median of -0.28%. Ethereum followed a similar pattern, with a Q3 average of +2.72% and a median return of +2.26%.
In comparison, Q4 tends to deliver much stronger performance. The Bitcoin median return in Q4 is +52.31%, while ETH posts +22.59%. Analysts link this trend to seasonal factors, such as lower summer trading volumes and liquidity.
However, Q3 can still serve as a foundation for significant developments. New narratives often surface in these quieter months and can set the tone for stronger Q4 rallies.
Bitcoin Posts Strong Q2 Rebound
CryptoRank data shows that Bitcoin gained 29.9% in Q2 2025, climbing from $82,503 to $107,153. This marks a recovery from a -11.7% loss in Q1.
The Q2 rally was largely driven by institutional interest, supported by favorable policies under the Trump administration. Improved regulatory clarity and easing concerns over global trade tensions have strengthened market sentiment.
Bitcoin’s recent gains align with historical Q2 trends. The asset rose 7.3% in Q2 2024 and 42.2% in Q2 2021. Bitcoin has also been moving more closely with traditional markets, such as the S&P 500, reflecting broader macroeconomic confidence.
U.S. Housing Policy Adds New Crypto Use Case
In a major regulatory update, the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) has issued Decision No. 2025-360.
As reported by CoinCryptoNewz, the rule directs Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to include cryptocurrency holdings in mortgage risk assessments. FHFA Director William Pulte called the move a step toward modernizing housing finance.
The change follows President Trump’s March 2025 Executive Order establishing a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve. While this benefits crypto-holding buyers, regulators remain cautious about asset volatility. Additional proposals are expected in the months ahead.
