- DogeOS opened a public network for testing Dogecoin applications.
- Developers can use Ethereum tools and free test DOGE.
- A proposed upgrade for Dogecoin to verify rollup proofs remains a draft.
The DogeOS testnet opened to developers on September 30, giving Dogecoin a public trial space for applications. DOGE traded near $0.094 when the announcement was made.Â
The MyDoge wallet team created this separate application layer above Dogecoin’s payment chain. Builders can test Ethereum-compatible smart contracts before mainnet, whose launch date remains unannounced.
DogeOS Testnet Brings DOGE Fees and Ethereum Tools to Builders
The DogeOS testnet lets developers reuse software designed for the Ethereum Virtual Machine. Network fees use DOGE, but a faucet supplies free test coins instead of live funds.Â
Project documentation says users can claim 42.069 test DOGE each day. That lets teams check their applications and transactions before committing real assets.
DogeOS names Barkswap for liquidity and Superposition Finance for crypto lending. Derps is building a perpetual exchange, while USDoge is planning a collateral-backed stablecoin.
Snag plans to collect prediction markets; PlaysOut and Doge Escape are developing games. The DogeOS testnet gives those teams a place to build, although each controls its own launch schedule.
Dogecoin Proof Upgrade Remains a Proposal as Testing Begins
The project calls its network a zero-knowledge rollup, which uses cryptographic proofs to check computations. Dogecoin itself does not yet verify those proofs. That distinction matters when assessing the security model behind the DogeOS testnet.
According to CEO Jordan Jefferson told The Block, its bridge also requires validator signatures and trusted hardware.Â
In July 2025, the team proposed adding proof verification to Dogecoin Core through OP_CHECKZKP. The proposal remains listed as a draft in Dogecoin’s public development discussion.
The DogeOS testnet launch therefore does not mean miners already verify its proofs. DogeOS raised $6.9 million in a Polychain-led round last year to fund application-layer development.
For now, developers can test contracts, wallets and fee payments while the team checks how the network performs. Dogecoin Foundation director Timothy Stebbing supports adding utility above the base chain while keeping its payment ledger intact.Â
Jefferson said a mainnet timeline will follow further network and developer testing milestones. The proposed Dogecoin Core proof-verification change has no announced activation date.
