- OKX says high-risk deposits may face reviews lasting 15 days.
- Gambling linked transfers and Telegram escrow channels face added scrutiny.
- Confirmed illicit activity can lead to account service termination.
OKX is increasing scrutiny of crypto deposits linked to gambling platforms and other high-risk funding channels. CEO Star Xu said flagged transactions can trigger anti-money laundering reviews lasting 15 days or longer. During reviews, users may face restrictions on funds and account functions.
Xu made the comments on X after a user asked about deposits from betting platforms. He also cited Telegram escrow transactions and Huiwang-related channels as higher source-of-funds risks.
OKX Flags Gambling and Telegram Linked Transactions
OKX may restrict account services while compliance teams examine the transaction history behind a flagged deposit. Xu said confirmed links to illegal activity can result in the termination of services.
The executive did not identify the betting platform or asset involved in the case. He also did not disclose the specific risk score that triggers an investigation.
OKX previously faced U.S. enforcement action over its compliance program. In February 2025, its operating company agreed to pay more than $500 million after pleading guilty to operating an unlicensed money transmitting business.
The new approach also covers funds connected to Huiwang and related networks. The U.S. Treasury’s FinCEN cut Huione Group from the U.S. financial system in October 2025. FinCEN said the group laundered at least $4 billion in illicit proceeds.
OKX Reviews Can Restrict Funds Beyond 15 Days
The OKX review period is not necessarily fixed at 15 days. Xu said investigations can last longer depending on the circumstances surrounding each transaction.
Blockchain screening can trace transfers through wallets linked to scams, hacks, sanctions, and other flagged activity. However, a connection to a high-risk address does not alone prove criminal conduct.
OKX users receiving funds from betting sites or informal trading channels may need transaction records. Withdrawal receipts, account statements and transaction hashes can help explain the source of funds.
Xu’s comments establish that OKX can impose extended reviews when deposits trigger compliance controls. Confirmed illegal activity may result in full account termination.
