Hyperliquid Regulation Draws Singapore Scrutiny as HYPE Falls

  • MAS added Hyperliquid to its Investor Alert List on June 26.
  • HYPE trades near $91 as regulatory questions remain in Singapore.
  • U.S. derivatives rules are opening new paths for regulated onchain markets.

Hyperliquid regulation is drawing attention as Singapore questions its status while U.S. authorities advance regulated onchain markets. HYPE traded near $91.22, down about 2.05% over 24 hours on October 7. The debate now centers on how decentralized trading infrastructure fits within existing financial rules.

Hyperliquid Regulation Faces Singapore Oversight Questions

The Monetary Authority of Singapore added Hyperliquid to its Investor Alert List on June 26. MAS says the list identifies entities that may be wrongly viewed as licensed or regulated locally. Hyperliquid presents itself as permissionless infrastructure rather than a conventional exchange.

The Financial Times reported that Hyperliquid operates from Singapore without holding an MAS licence. That creates an important Hyperliquid regulation question around jurisdiction and regulatory responsibility. Its decentralized structure complicates traditional oversight because trades settle through public blockchain infrastructure.

Meanwhile, Hyperliquid Policy Center CEO Jake Chervinsky expects major exchanges to eventually integrate public blockchains. He cited firms including CME, ICE, Coinbase, and Kraken as potential users of such infrastructure. His view places blockchain networks beneath exchanges rather than treating protocols as traditional exchanges.

Hyperliquid Regulation Expands as U.S. Onchain Markets Advance

U.S. regulators have already allowed registered venues to list several crypto perpetual futures products. CFTC records show Bitnomial certified perpetual contracts covering Bitcoin, Ether, Solana, XRP, and other assets. Hyperliquid regulation could therefore focus increasingly on infrastructure rather than individual derivatives products.

Payward also plans permissioned perpetual markets using Hyperliquid infrastructure for U.S. clients. Bitnomial would create and clear contracts, while NinjaTrader Clearing would carry customer accounts. The arrangement could test how public blockchain infrastructure works inside regulated derivatives markets.

Chervinsky has also criticized CME resistance to perpetual futures and greater onchain competition. The Hyperliquid Policy Center argues regulated firms should be able to use blockchain technology for trading and clearing. Hyperliquid regulation remains central as authorities weigh transparency, decentralization, market access, and oversight.
