Justin Sun Claims Court Win as World Liberty Disputes RulingĀ

  • Justin Sun says his personal claims will remain in open federal court.
  • World Liberty says Judge James Donato issued no ruling during the hearing.
  • The public docket does not yet show a written arbitration order.

Justin Sun and World Liberty Financial offered conflicting accounts of an August 20 arbitration hearing in California federal court. Sun said his individual claims would remain public and called the outcome a major victory.

World Liberty co-founder Zach Witkoff said Judge James Donato issued no rulings. No written order appeared on the public docket when reviewed. The disagreement leaves the hearing’s procedural result unsettled until the court publishes an order.

Justin Sun and World Liberty Give Conflicting Court Accounts

Sun said the judge rejected a broad effort to move the dispute into confidential arbitration. He also said both sides must identify which company claims belong in court.

ā€œAll of my individual claims will remain in open court,ā€ Justin Sun said after the hearing.

Witkoff disputed that description. He said World Liberty Financial never sought arbitration for Sun’s personal claims and instead wants them dismissed. Witkoff also said Sun’s lawyers accepted arbitration for several company claims.

The public docket confirms a June 2 motion to compel arbitration and pause proceedings. It also confirms the court scheduled the hearing for August 20. The accessible docket did not yet display a written order resolving that motion.

WLFI Lawsuit Returns to Token Freeze Claims in Public Court

The WLFI lawsuit began April 21 after World Liberty Financial froze tokens linked to Sun. Justin Sun alleges the company added undisclosed contract controls that can freeze, restrict, or burn token holdings. World Liberty denies wrongdoing and says Sun violated agreements governing his holdings.

Sun invested $45 million in WLFI through entities he controls. The complaint seeks damages and orders protecting the disputed tokens. World Liberty has also filed a Florida defamation case accusing Sun of false statements and improper token activity.

The arbitration dispute does not decide whether either side acted illegally. It also does not establish rules for USD1 or other stablecoins. WLFI serves as a governance token, while USD1 operates as World Liberty’s dollar-backed stablecoin.

Justin Sun has raised separate concerns about issuer controls, but no court has accepted those claims. Witkoff said World Liberty’s dismissal motion remains pending.
