Standard Chartered Crypto Custody Expansion Targets Singapore

  • Standard Chartered targets Singapore institutions with regulated digital asset custody services.
  • The planned offering covers cryptoassets, stablecoins, and tokenized real-world assets securely.
  • Singapore expands Standard Chartered custody footprint across major regulated financial hubs.

Standard Chartered plans to launch institutional digital asset custody in Singapore by year-end, subject to regulatory requirements. According to the press release, the Standard Chartered crypto custody service will cover selected cryptoassets, stablecoins, and tokenized real-world assets. It targets institutional clients and accredited-investor corporate clients. The move extends the bank’s digital asset strategy across major financial centres.

Standard Chartered Crypto Custody Expands Across Singapore

Standard Chartered crypto custody will sit within the bank’s Financing and Securities Services division. The structure links digital asset safekeeping with existing financing, securities, and traditional asset-servicing capabilities. It could support clients across wider asset lifecycles as tokenized markets develop.

The bank has not named supported assets, fees, or final regulatory approvals. However, management says Singapore offers strong institutional demand and a mature financial innovation ecosystem. Standard Chartered crypto custody therefore adds another bank-grade option for institutions seeking regulated digital asset infrastructure.

The Singapore expansion follows similar custody activity in the UAE, Luxembourg, and Hong Kong. Standard Chartered has also moved to bring more Zodia Custody operations into its core banking business. That process remains subject to regulatory approvals and closing conditions.

Singapore Plan Builds on Global Institutional Custody Push

Standard Chartered crypto custody also builds on its European and Middle Eastern digital asset operations. In Luxembourg, the bank has already developed regulated custody capabilities for institutional clients. It also announced a digital asset custody relationship with LMAX Group across Luxembourg and Dubai.

Singapore adds another strategic market to that international network. The bank says secure infrastructure remains essential for institutional tokenization, transfer, and safekeeping. Standard Chartered crypto custody could support those functions alongside traditional securities services.

The planned service does not extend to retail customers. Instead, Standard Chartered is focusing on institutions and eligible corporate clients requiring formal custody controls. The bank still needs to disclose supported assets, pricing, launch conditions, and applicable regulatory approvals.

The expansion also strengthens Standard Chartered’s exposure to tokenized real-world assets. Demand for regulated custody is rising as banks, asset managers, and issuers test blockchain-based financial products.
