Strategy Bitcoin sales plans are gaining market attention after the company outlined a framework that could allow up to $5 billion in Bitcoin monetization. The company said the funds could support USD reserves, preferred dividends, interest payments, and stock buybacks. Strategy held 843,775 BTC as of July 26.
The company’s Bitcoin holdings were acquired at an average cost of $75,476 per BTC. Bitcoin traded near $63,039 on Friday, placing the holdings below their average purchase price.
Strategy Bitcoin Sales Framework Targets Capital Needs
The Strategy Bitcoin sales framework divides potential BTC monetization into three areas. The company could allocate up to $1.25 billion toward USD reserves, around $1.76 billion toward preferred dividends and interest obligations, and up to $2 billion toward share repurchases.
According to Investor’s Business Daily data shared by Wu Blockchain, Strategy has already sold about $218.4 million worth of Bitcoin in 2026. Those sales supported preferred dividend payments.
The company’s Q2 results showed an $8.22 billion net loss, largely linked to an $8.32 billion unrealized Bitcoin loss under fair-value accounting rules. Revenue from its software business reached $122.4 million during the quarter.
Meanwhile, Strategy’s Bitcoin holdings reached about 846,000 BTC during Q2 before falling to 843,775 BTC after sales. The company’s BTC position carries a total cost basis of roughly $63.69 billion.
Strategy Bitcoin Sales Shift Corporate Treasury Approach
The Strategy Bitcoin sales framework marks a change from the company’s previous accumulation-focused approach. Strategy became known for continuously increasing its Bitcoin reserves through capital market activities.
The company has also reduced convertible debt to approximately $6.71 billion and built USD reserves of $3.75 billion. Additionally, it raised $17.06 billion through its ATM equity program during 2026.
Bitcoin declined more than 3% following the earnings update, reaching multi-week lows near $62,500. The $5 billion authorization represents a possible ceiling rather than a confirmed sale amount. Strategy has not announced that it will sell the full allocation, while future decisions depend on its capital management needs.
