XRP Ledger Prepares Major 3.3.0 Release With Five Amendments

  • XRP Ledger 3.3.0 includes five proposed amendments for validator approval.
  • Confidential MPT adds privacy features for Multi-Purpose Tokens.
  • Sponsored Fees and Dynamic MPT expand XRPL token functionality.

The XRP Ledger upgrade is moving closer to the release of xrpld 3.3.0, with RippleX announcing five proposed amendments expected to be released next week. The update introduces Confidential MPT, Batch, Permission Delegation, Sponsored Fees and Reserves, and Dynamic MPT. Validator approval is still required before the changes take effect on the network.

The upcoming XRP Ledger upgrade focuses on expanding token utility, improving transaction flexibility, and adding privacy tools for digital asset applications. Jazzi Cooper, head of product at RippleX, said the amendments are designed to support activities including transfers, trading, collateralization, and settlement.

XRP Ledger Upgrade Adds Privacy and Token Controls

The XRP Ledger upgrade introduces Confidential MPT, which combines zero-knowledge proofs and elliptic-curve encryption. The feature allows Multi-Purpose Token balances and transaction amounts to remain private while enabling authorized verification when required.

Additionally, Dynamic MPT allows token issuers to define specific properties that can change after issuance. These updates may include token metadata and transfer-related features without requiring a new token launch.

The XRP Ledger upgrade also includes Sponsored Fees and Reserves, allowing banks, platforms, and issuers to cover transaction fees and reserve requirements for users. This removes the requirement for every participant to hold XRP before interacting with the network.

XRP Ledger Upgrade Faces Validator Approval Process

The XRP Ledger upgrade will only activate after validators approve each amendment. XRPL amendments require at least 80% validator support for two consecutive weeks before implementation.

Meanwhile, Batch and Permission Delegation previously failed approval after security concerns emerged. The Batch amendment allows multiple transactions across accounts to execute together, supporting processes such as atomic settlement.

Security researchers identified flaws in earlier versions of these features, leading validators to reject activation. Revised versions are included in the upcoming XRP Ledger upgrade.

Permission Delegation enables institutions to grant limited transaction authority without sharing full signing control. RippleX said this feature supports operational workflows while keeping account ownership with users.

The release follows the July 29 activation of the fix_Cleanup3.2.0 update, which received more than 85% validator consensus support. The XRP Ledger upgrade remains dependent on validator decisions before becoming active.
