The Uniswap.com domain has returned to attention after founder Hayden Adams claimed Sam Bankman-Fried bought it for seven figures. Adams said Uniswap had rejected an earlier seven-figure asking price. He also said the domain was later directed toward a Uniswap fork before Uniswap’s legal team obtained it without purchasing it.
Adams did not disclose transaction records or identify the seller. The WIPO case record also does not name Bankman-Fried as the purchaser.
Uniswap.com Domain Was Transferred After WIPO Dispute
The Uniswap.com domain became the subject of a 2021 complaint filed by Universal Navigation, which operates as Uniswap Labs. WIPO records show the domain was acquired by the respondent on April 7, 2021. The published case identifies the respondent as Registration Private and Future XXX.
WIPO reviewed archived evidence showing the domain had redirected visitors to a SushiSwap page. The panel found that use created a risk of confusion with Uniswap Labs and its UNISWAP trademark. WIPO subsequently ordered the Uniswap.com domain transferred to Uniswap Labs on Sept. 3, 2021.
The ruling found the domain had been registered and used in bad faith. However, it did not establish that Bankman-Fried owned or purchased the domain.
Uniswap.com Domain History Includes SushiSwap Connection
Bankman-Fried had previously been involved with SushiSwap during its 2020 governance crisis. That history provides context for Adams’ statement about the domain and its alleged redirection.
Still, the documented record separates those events from the Uniswap.com domain purchase claim. WIPO’s decision focused on trademark rights, the domain’s use and evidence surrounding the respondent.
Adams later said the legal team secured the domain because of its alleged malicious use. The WIPO proceeding supports the transfer outcome, while the seven-figure payment claim remains based on Adams’ account.
The domain now redirects to Uniswap’s official platform, ending a dispute that began years before the latest claim resurfaced.
