Vangrid, a decentralized physical infrastructure network focused on spatial data, has raised $9 million in seed funding. The Amsterdam-based startup aims to build a blockchain-powered mapping network that provides real-world data for Physical AI systems, robotics, and autonomous technologies.
The funding round included HashKey, Borderless, Crypto.com Capital, Animoca Brands, Gate Labs, and Mapleblock Capital. Vangrid completed the raise through multiple tranches before announcing the round after its network went live.
Vangrid Expands DePIN Network for Physical AI Data
Vangrid is developing a DePIN network that allows users to capture geospatial information through smartphones. The collected data is transformed into 3D spatial models and verified onchain before being offered to customers.
According to CEO Robert Brighton, the network aims to solve a major challenge for Physical AI developers. Robots and autonomous systems require continuously updated environmental data to operate effectively outside controlled locations.
Vangrid uses Base as its blockchain infrastructure and relies on the Ethereum Attestation Service to verify captured data batches. The project currently reports nearly 100,000 verified captures, 200,000 grid events, and more than 1,300 batch attestations.
Vangrid Targets Robotics and Enterprise Adoption
Meanwhile, Vangrid plans to use the new capital to expand partnerships with companies developing robotics, autonomous agents, and digital modeling systems. The company is also exploring applications across defense and government sectors.
The startup said contributor rewards are currently distributed through bounties, while a future token launch is planned. Reward mechanics will be announced closer to the token generation event.
Vangrid positions its model between traditional mapping providers and open crowdsourcing platforms. It uses device-level processing and onchain verification to improve data quality while protecting privacy.
The company has already signed memorandums of understanding with strategic data partners and plans to grow its 14-person core team across engineering and data operations.
