- Robinhood adds $25 million in Bitcoin directly to its corporate balance sheet.
- The purchase differs from billions in cryptocurrency held for Robinhood customers.
- Robinhood continues expanding crypto derivatives, tokenization and blockchain services.
Robinhood confirmed a $25 million Bitcoin purchase for its corporate balance sheet on Wednesday. The Robinhood Bitcoin purchase marks a direct treasury position rather than customer-held crypto. Bitcoin traded near $84,000 as the disclosure added another corporate name to the asset’s adoption story.
Johann Kerbrat, Robinhood’s crypto and international chief, confirmed the transaction during an interview with The Block. He said the move aligns Robinhood more closely with Bitcoin and the broader crypto market. The amount remains small compared with Robinhood’s roughly $100 billion market value.
Robinhood Bitcoin Purchase Expands Its Crypto Strategy
The Robinhood Bitcoin purchase follows a wider push into digital assets and blockchain-based financial products. Robinhood launched its public Layer 2 mainnet in July and expanded tokenized stock access abroad. The company also plans perpetual futures for eligible U.S. customers across several major cryptocurrencies.
Robinhood reported 28.6 million funded customers and $384 billion in total platform assets for August. Crypto notional trading volume reached $17.5 billion during that month. Those figures show why the Robinhood Bitcoin purchase carries more strategic meaning than financial weight.
The balance-sheet position also differs from crypto held for customers. Robinhood’s platform includes large customer cryptocurrency balances, which remain separate from company treasury assets. That distinction matters because corporate Bitcoin directly exposes Robinhood to changes in Bitcoin’s market value.
Robinhood Bitcoin Purchase Adds Corporate Treasury Exposure
Robinhood joins a growing group of public companies holding Bitcoin as a corporate asset. The strategy added another 334 BTC between September 28 and October 4. That purchase lifted its disclosed holdings to 848,000 BTC.
The Robinhood Bitcoin purchase remains modest compared with those larger treasury strategies. However, it gives the brokerage direct balance-sheet exposure to Bitcoin for the first time. Robinhood also continues expanding Robinhood Chain, tokenized assets, crypto derivatives and international crypto services.
Bitcoin closed around $85,540 on October 6 after remaining below recent local highs. The new corporate position gives Robinhood direct participation in future Bitcoin price changes. It also strengthens the link between its corporate treasury and expanding crypto business.
