World Foundation Secures $52.5M in Locked WLD Token Sale

  • Pantera Capital led the $52.5 million strategic WLD token sale.
  • All tokens purchased through the funding round carry a 12-month lockup.
  • Funding will expand World ID for enterprises, consumers and AI agents.

World Foundation has raised an initial $52.5 million through a strategic WLD token sale led by Pantera Capital. Every token purchased carries a 12-month lockup. Bain Capital Crypto, Eightco Holdings, Selini Capital and Susquehanna Crypto also joined the first close.

The foundation will use the capital to expand World ID for consumers, enterprises and AI agents. WLD traded near $0.37 after falling about 2% over 24 hours.

World Foundation Funding Comes With One-Year WLD Lockup

World Foundation described the deal as an initial close, leaving open the possibility of further fundraising. However, it has not confirmed another sale. The WLD token sale does not give buyers equity, profit rights or ownership in Tools for Humanity.

Each investor receives locked tokens intended for use across World Network. The one-year restriction limits immediate market access for the purchased WLD. The announcement did not reveal individual allocations or the number of tokens sold.

Pantera Capital general partner Cosmo Jiang linked the investment to rising demand for proof-of-human systems. AI agents, synthetic identities and deepfakes are increasing pressure on platforms to distinguish real people from automated users.

World ID Expansion Targets Enterprises and AI Agents

World Foundation said more than 39 million people have joined World Network. Over 18 million users have completed Orb verification. The system has processed more than 475 million identity proofs since launch.

World ID creates a digital credential after a one-time Orb verification. The credential remains on the user’s phone, allowing them to prove uniqueness without disclosing their identity. World ID 4.0 also lets developers add credentials through a zero-knowledge proof framework.

The technology is being integrated with Zoom, Docusign, Okta, Vercel and Tinder. World Foundation plans to focus the new funding on wider adoption across organisations and consumer platforms.

The expansion continues despite regulatory scrutiny over biometric data collection. Regulators in Kenya, Spain, Brazil, Hong Kong and South Korea have investigated or restricted the project.
